Things I"ve Learned Along the WayAward-winning composer/conductor/arranger Shelly Markham presents his first solo album in the adult contemporary vein of artists such as Michael Bubl and Peter Cincotti. Shelly Markham, who has had a long career as a composer from pop to theatre, has always wanted to release songs that celebrate being a certain pivotal age and not apologizing for it, but rather celebrating it! Here, he has enlisted the help of some wonderful lyricists including Judith Viorst, Lee Adams, Tom Toce, and Barry Kleinbort to write songs that help to paint a vivid picture in adult terms. All the songs are originals, with the exception of an entirely new version of The Way We Were with a second bridge seldom recorded, giving the song a whole new, darker edge. The songs are fiercely romantic, similar to albums released by artists like Josh Groban, with elements of artists from the 60s and 70s like Johnny Hartman or even Johnny Mathis.
