StepchildI first became aware of StepChild in 1995, the same year their debut album (cd) was released. I was blown away! The brothas" were actually playing instruments, not 808 drum machines like most during the mid 90"s. It was very refreshing to hear "MUSICIANS",ahhh, don"t hear that word used too much anymore, on the trax of this project. This group fell victim to not being abled to be cast in a certain genre of music, thus hurting their ability to be heard on the radio. I heard them on an alternative station WRFG 89.3 FM here in the "ATL", and it"s the only station I ever heard them played on. It"s hard to describe their sound, but it"s sort of a 90"s P-Funk sound(for those of you who don"t know what P-Funk is, that"s short for Parliament-Funkadelic). I enjoyed every track on the album (cd), my favorite is "F****n" Wit Me", a mid-tempo groove with nice lead vocals, and background harmonies, especially the cat with the bass voice that reminds me of P-Funk. If you want something different, but not extreme in your collection of music, then give this album (cd) a try, I think you"ll be pleasantly surprised.
